Beirut: The barbaric extremist group Islamic State, which is already notorious for committing heinous crimes against women and girl captives, has gone a step ahead and systematically institutionalised sex slavery with 'an intricate bureaucracy' and 'complete infrastructure' dedicated to handle the affairs.

According to a report by the New York Times, the practice of sex slavery is highly organised in the areas controlled by the Islamic State so much so that there is a complete 'infrastructure' with a network of warehouses for victims, viewing rooms where they are paraded naked for inspection, and also a fleet of buses used to transport them.

“The trade in women and girls from the Yazidi religious minority who are bought and sold, given as gifts between fighters and offered as prizes in competitions, is widespread in areas that the Islamic State controls,” the report adds.

The report, for which the the New York Times talked to a bunch of 21 escapees, explains how sex slavery has become deeply embedded in the group's theology and that they use women and girls as small as 11-year-old to lure conservative Muslims to join the group.

Sex slavery has become a strong recruiting tool for ISIS as it has been using the kidnapped girls and women as the bait to attract young Muslims in joining the group.

In a spine-chilling account by a 12-year-old girl who escaped the ISIS, she described the horror of being raped by an Islamic State fighter, who prayed both before and after raping her.

Narrating her traumatic experience, the preteen girl says how she was gagged and before committing the heinous act, the ISIS fighter justified to her that he was allowed to rape her as she was an infidel.

“I kept telling him it hurts — please stop....He told me that according to Islam he is allowed to rape an unbeliever. He said that by raping me, he is drawing closer to God,” the New York Times quoted the girl.

Another 19-year-old escapee descried the scenario inside a slave market where she along with 500 other unmarried women and girls were placed.

In November last year, a video was released which showed a normal day at ISIS 'sex slave market' where fighters could choose from among various Yazidi girls, priced differently as per their features.

The video showed the barbaric fighters bargaining for woman slaves, explaining how the prices vary according to the girls' physical details; for instance - the colour of her eyes.

The report comes just days after a UN envoy expressed concern over the plight of women under ISIS captivity, saying how “the girls get peddled like barrels of petrol...”.

She also said how the ISIS had a price list for women on sale with adolescent girls costing $124 in Iraqi dinars each.
