Washington: The Islamic State strategy of using social media to recruit more people backfired when the US Air Force Intelligence tracked down a building after a post by a “moron” gave clues about the whereabouts of a terror group's facility.

Commander of Air Combat Command, General Herbert J Hawke, was quoted by CNN as saying, “These guys that are working down at Hurlburt (Florida), they're combing through social media. And they see some moron standing at this command and control capability for Da'Esh, ISIL. These guys go, 'ah we got an in,'" Carlisle said at a speech in Arlington, Virginia, on Monday.”

Hawke made the statement during a speech sponsored by the Air Force Association on June 1 in Arlington.

Shortly after the location of the ISIS facility was established, US warplanes were sent to destroy the building.

The ISIS has been actively using the social media to increase its presence and recruit more people.
