Two local staff members at the UK consulate in Jerusalem have been arrested by Israeli authorities.
London: British authorities say two local staff members at the UK consulate in Jerusalem have been arrested by Israeli authorities.
The Foreign Office spokesman says it believes the two maintenance workers are being investigated on suspicion of illegal weapons sales, but that it is seeking confirmation
from Israel. He spoke on condition of anonymity under departmental protocol.
The spokesman today said the Israeli authorities have said the arrests are unrelated to the men`s work at the consulate.
He says the vetting process for employees at British consulates and embassies is under constant review and these arrests will be looked at as part of the continual review.
The spokesman says the two were arrested last month. He did not provide other details.
