Israeli Gaza flotilla probe does not meet UN demands: Abbas

Israel`s planned internal committee to probe its deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla does not comply with the demands of the UN Security Council, Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas said.

Paris: Israel`s planned internal committee
to probe its deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla does not
comply with the demands of the UN Security Council,
Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas said on Monday.

"The proposition made today (by Israel) for the inquiry
committee does not correspond to the request of the Security
Council," he said in Paris after meeting with French President
Nicolas Sarkozy.

Israel`s cabinet on Monday backed the creation of an internal
committee, which will include two foreign observers, to probe
the raid on the flotilla in which commandos killed nine
Turkish activists and wounded many more.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon insisted last week that the
international community must be given a "credible" role in
Israel`s probe.
