Israel`s responses to on-strike prisoners vague: Palestine

Israel`s responses to the demands of the Palestinian hunger strikers were vague and likely to be rejected, Palestinian minister of prisoners` affairs said.

Ramallah: Israel`s responses to the demands of the Palestinian hunger strikers were vague and likely to be rejected, Palestinian minister of prisoners` affairs Eassa Qaraqea said Saturday.

The responses lacked of clarity on two key demands: ending the solitary confinement and lifting the ban on Gaza families to visit their jailed sons, Qaraqea told Xinhua, adding that "There is a sense of procrastination."

On April 17, at least 1,500 Palestinian detainees in the Israeli prisons started a hunger strike to protest against their prison conditions and demand improvements. The strike, started by dozens of inmates, is the biggest collective protest in Israeli jails.

The prisoners are considering the responses and will come up with their decision in two days, Qaraqea said, adding that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) respects the decision of the strikers.

Israel currently holds 4,700 Palestinians, 320 of them on the so-called administrative detention.
