London: Katsuto Momii, the new head of Japan`s national broadcaster NHK has reportedly apologized for his remarks on the use of `comfort women`.
Momii issued a public apology following his comments justifying the use of women to provide sexual services to theImperial Japanese soldiersbefore and during World War II.
In his statement, Katsuto Momii said that his remarks, that the practice was common in any country at war, were very inappropriate, the BBC reported.
Supporting the chief, Japan`s chief cabinet spokesman said that Momii had made the comment as an individual and not as NHK chief.
Meanwhile, his comments provoked criticism from other political parties of Japan who insisted that the chairman immediately apologised to the South Korean people and step down from his post.
