Gaza City: A foreign journalist was among at least five people killed in northern Gaza on Wednesday as Palestinian experts were dismantling an Israeli missile, medics and officials said.

Emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said five people had been killed.

"A number of explosives experts were killed while dismantling an (Israeli) missile in Beit Lahiya," interior ministry spokesman Iyad al-Buzam told AFP.
He said a foreign journalist was among those killed in the blast.

Muayin al-Masri, spokesperson for Kamal Adwan hospital, said the victims included four Palestinian men and a foreign national.

Another five people were wounded, three of whom were in critical condition, he said.
The journalist was at the scene to cover the work to dismantle the unexploded missile, although there was no official word on the victim`s identity.

Another local journalist working with him was also badly wounded, an AFP correspondent said.

In a side room at the hospital, male relatives could be seen weeping and praying together, some people too shocked to talk.

The blast occurred as Israel and Hamas militants were observing a 72-hour truce which expires at midnight local time as negotiators in Cairo tried to thrash out a more permanent ceasefire arrangement.
