Kabul attacks not to intimidate US: Hillary

Multiple blasts rocked Kabul and heavily armed Taliban militants wearing suicide vests targeted the US embassy.

Washington: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday the suicide attacks targeting the US embassy in Kabul would not intimidate her country.

Multiple blasts rocked the Afghan capital Tuesday and heavily armed Taliban militants wearing suicide vests targeted the US embassy, triggering a fierce gunfight. Five suicide bombers and a police official were killed, and at least nine people were injured.

Clinton, referring to the civilians and US diplomats working in Afghanistan, said: "They will not be intimidated by this kind of cowardly attack. They work hard every day along with their Afghan colleagues to help children go to school, to help save mothers` lives at childbirth, to build roads, to assist farmers."

The secretary of state vowed that the US would take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of Americans and to make sure that the attackers are "dealt with", Xinhua reported.
