Jakarta: A 45-year-old Indonesian man choked to death during a chicken eating competition in capital Jakarta, local media reported on Saturday.
The competition had three participants who raced to eat the fried chicken wings in the least amount of time, EFE news reported.
The victim choked, drank water and, despite medical aid, died, according to police sources.
A promotions company linked to fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) had organised the event.
"As you know, this incident happened in Indonesia and not in India. We are incredibly saddened to hear of this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with Freedi Djajadi's family. KFC Indonesia is in communication with local authorities to determine what exactly happened. In the meantime, O2 Accion Dcc, the promotions company that organized the event, has cancelled this contest," a KFC India spokesperson said, in an e-mailed statement.
