Moscow: External Affairs Minister S M
Krishna on Saturday discussed the Syrian crisis with UN special
envoy Kofi Annan and conveyed India`s support to his efforts
to bring peace to the strife-torn country.
"The call was primarily meant to convey India`s support
to Kofi Annan`s mission... it was basically meant to convey
India`s good wishes and support to Annan and he was extremely
happy that India is supporting his moves," Krishna told Indian
reporters at the conclusion of his two-day visit to Russia.
He said during the telephonic conversation, Annan sounded
"reasonably hopeful" on the results of his efforts.
The minister recalled that India`s Permanent
Representative to the UN, Hardeep Singh Puri, had played a
very useful role in enlisting Annan`s involvement to help
Syria come out of the kind of crisis it is in.
As part of his efforts, Annan has called for the swift
deployment of a UN truce-monitoring force to Syria.
