Major fire in East London; area cordoned off Zeenews Bureau

London: A major fire has broken out in a restaurant and office block in Shoreditch, East London, completely shutting down the new financial district of the megalopolis.

According to London Fire Brigade, over 100 firefighters along with around 20 fire engines are at the scene and are trying to control the spread of the inferno.

As per reports, the fire that broke out at 5 am GMT (10.30 am IST), has completely engulfed the ground floor and part of the first floor of the building in Tabernacle Street.

An electrical short circuit is thought to be the reason behind the fire, but as of now, there is no confirmation.

However, as per reports, there are no casualties as the building was empty at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police have announced that various roads in the area have been closed, including part of City Road south of Old Street, Bloomberg Square and Worship Street.

Details are awaited.
