Colombo: A Malaysian couple was arrested today in Sri Lanka for using fake credit cards to purchase expensive French brandy from a five-star hotel here.

Five bottles of Louis XIII Cognac, each valued at USD 7,500, and 25 fake credit cards were found from their possession, police said in a statement.

The two identified only as Nee and Fui were arrested based on information received yesterday, the police said.

They were produced before a magistrate who remanded them in custody till September 3.

The Lankan police has warned hotels to be careful while accepting credit cards from foreign nationals as there had been an increase in the use of stolen or fake credit cards in recent months.
