The hostage-taker was armed with a knife and a hammer, said the father of one of the children.
Johor: Malaysian police have ended a hostage crisis at a kindergarten and rescued all the captives after a seven-hour stand-off, a local police official said on Thursday.
"We have ended the hostage taking. The children and teachers are safe. The hostage taker armed with a hammer and machete has been taken to a local hospital," he said on condition of anonymity, without elaborating.
Heavily armed police had surrounded the two-storey bungalow which houses the kindergarten.
Police had also brought in a dozen members of the police special action unit from the capital Kuala Lumpur.
