Moscow: An Mil Mi-2 Hoplite helicopter crashed in Russia's southern Rostov region, killing the pilot.

A regional security services official said the helicopter crashed on Friday in Proletarsky district to the southeast of regional capital Rostov-on-Don.

The helicopter was being used for agricultural purposes.

The Mi-2 is a lightly armoured transport helicopter. A total of 7,200 helicopters were produced exclusively in Poland until its production completely ceased in 1985.
