Two single-engine small planes collided in mid-air on Wednesday in western Georgia city of the US, killing three people on board, said US federal officials.

Washington: Two single-engine small planes collided in mid-air on Wednesday in western Georgia city of the US, killing three people on board, said US federal officials.

"Two single aircraft, a Diamond Aircraft DA20C1 and a Beech F33A, collided in midair over at the West Georgia Airport, Carrolton, GA at 10.54 a.m. today," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement.

The crash took place near West Georgia Regional airport, about 45 miles west of Atlanta.

The FAA says it's investigating the cause of the collision.
