Military solution ‘no answer’ to Syrian crisis: UN chief London: UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon has said a military solution is not the answer to the ongoing crisis in Syria.

As heavy fighting continued in the capital Damascus and the northern city of Aleppo, Ban said it was ‘troubling’ that no end was in sight, and called for political dialogue.

“Unfortunately both sides, government and opposition forces, seem to be determined to see the end by military means,” the BBC quoted him, as saying.

“I think military means will not bring an answer. That should be resolved through political dialogue,” he added.

According to the report, speaking at a news conference to mark the new session of the UN General Assembly, Ban said he was deeply affected by TV images of the conflict in Syria.

Activists have said government forces had stormed a southern suburb of Damascus.

According to the report, the situation for residents in Hajar al-Aswad was said to be desperate.

State media said troops had killed many of what they called ‘terrorists’.
