London: In a miraculous escape, a pet pooch in the UK has survived after being hit head-on by a train travelling at 80 kilometres per hour.

Collie Rex accidentally ran straight into the path of an oncoming train when the canine excitedly sped off from his owner while on a walk in April, this year.

Just four months after being hit by the moving train, the pet has astounded owners by making a miraculous recovery, the `Daily Express` reported.

Rex suffered major injuries in the incident, his skull was shattered and he also lost an eye in the near-fatal accident but fortunately he wasn`t left brain damaged.

After the dog was rushed to a hospital for surgery, doctors warned Caroline there was little chance of the dog`s survival.

However, two operations and four months later Rex has now made an almost full recovery.

Luckily, Rex`s injuries did not lead to a loss in mobility or movement and he still enjoys long walks and can even run.
