Moderate earthquake shakes eastern Turkey

The Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory says the epicentre was near the town of Sultanli.

Ankara: Turkey`s seismology centre says a
moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 has
shaken eastern Turkey.

There are no immediate reports of any injuries or damage.

The Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory says the
epicentre was near the town of Sultanli in the eastern
province of Mus. The quake struck at 11:35 GMT today.

Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey, much of which lies
atop active fault lines.

At least 644 people were killed in two earthquakes that
hit the nearby province of Van in October and November.
