Taipei: A 5.2-magnitude earthquake rocked
southern Taiwan on Monday, the island`s Seismology Centre said,
but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The quake hit at 1301 GMT about 30 kilometres south of
the city of Chiayi city, with the epicentre 20 kilometres
deep.
Taiwan is regularly hit by earthquakes as it lies near
the junction of two tectonic plates.
In September 1999, a 7.6-magnitude quake killed around
2,400 people in the deadliest natural disaster in the island`s
history.
