London: Close on the heels of the brutal slaying of British soldier Lee Rigby in Woolwich, a man has confessed that he wanted to kill Prince Harry.
Ashraf Islam, 30, was charged with threats to kill the third in line for the throne, and was arrested in London.
According to the Mirror, Islam pleaded guilty before the Uxbridge Magistrates` Court after an investigation carried out by the Metropolitan Police`s Counter Terrorism Command.
Harry, an Apache pilot with the Army Air Corps, is the prime target of the Taliban as a result of his high-profile tours of Afghanistan and his public support for military causes.
Security has been stepped up for the prince in the past few days owing to the brutal slaying of Rigby in Woolwich and the recent confirmation of his assassination plot, the report added.
Dai Davies, former head of Scotland Yard`s royal protection squad, said that it is important to recognize that terrorists are capable of plotting against the royals.
Davies further added that The British Royal Family serve their people by public displays and it is this `openness` that puts their security in jeopardy and hence a security review is essential, the report added.
