Myanmar`s first Vice President resigns

U Tin Aung Myint Oo, Myanmar`s first Vice President, has stepped down from his position because of health reasons.

Yangon: U Tin Aung Myint Oo, Myanmar`s first Vice President, has stepped down from his position because of health reasons, President U Thein Sein informed Parliament through a message on Wednesday.

Read by Speaker of Parliament U Khin Aung Myint, the message added that the new first vice president is to be elected in a week, Xinhua reported.

The 4th session of the two-House Parliament opened in the capital Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.
According to informed sources, the 61-year-old vice president had submitted his resignation to the President in early May after receiving medical treatment in Singapore for an unspecified ailment.
