New rules in Britain make Queen Elizabeth II, Prince
Charles and Prince William exempt from freedom of information
laws, meaning many private details would be made public for

Previously, such information could be released if it was
in the public interest.

The government says the exemption taking force Wednesday
will protect the monarch`s private conversations with
politicians and officials. But activists say it will make it
even harder to hold to account a royal family that costs
taxpayers millions a year.

Freedom of information filings have previously extracted
information including the queen`s request for money from a
fund intended for low-income households to help pay palace
heating bills.
