Damaturu: Officials say 14 people have died in separate attacks involving a radical Islamist sect in Nigeria`s violence-torn northeast.
The deaths continue a spate of attacks by the sect known as Boko Haram and reprisals by security officials. The 14 deaths reported today included sect members, security officials and at least one civilian.
Army spokesman Lt Col. Sagir Musa said that in one attack a suicide bomber killed a commuter today at a checkpoint in the city of Maiduguri. In another, two suspected Boko Haram members were fatally shot by police after entering a market with weapons.
