Nigeria: Boko Haram attack kills 10-year-old boy

A 10-year-old boy was killed when a rocket fired by suspected members of Islamic Boko Haram sect at a school hit him in the central Nigerian city Jos.

Abuja: A 10-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday when a rocket fired by suspected members of Islamic Boko Haram sect at a school hit him in the central Nigerian city Jos.

Military Capt Salisu Mustapha said the rocket did not hit the school but landed at a nearby building, killing the boy.

Jos, the capital of Plateau State, has been bedeviled by ethnic and religious violence in recent times which Boko Haram often make worse by its bombing and shooting operations.

Earlier today, Nigerian Army started an operation to flush out terrorists who have occupied a mountain.

Plateau state has been a hotbed of violence between Fulani herdsmen, who are mostly Muslims, and Birom ethnic group made up of mostly Christians.
Most often, incidents of violence in Plateau are not related to bombings and shootings carried out by the radical Islamic sect but communal fights for land control in the oil rich African country’s central region.
