Nigerian women march for help to wed

Abuja: Over 8,000 women marched in Nigeria`s northern state of Zamfara, seeking the government`s assistance to enable them to get married.
The Zamfara Widows Association went to the headquarters of a religious police, Hizbah, stating that they are facing difficulty in finding husbands.
Traditionally women need to provide furniture for the marital home, but this is too expensive for some of those seeking husbands.
In Nigeria, men are expected, in most cases, to become the breadwinners of their families.
"Many of us cannot afford two meals in a day because there are no men to support us," Nigeria`s Premium Times quotes the women on yesterday`s march as saying.
Officials of the oil-rich African country who listened to their request promised to present their matter before the state government.
