US President Barack Obama has officially invited his Egyptian counterpart Mohamed Morsi to visit the US to discuss bilateral relations, Egyptian state media reported.

Cairo: US President Barack Obama has officially invited his Egyptian counterpart Mohamed Morsi to visit the US to discuss bilateral relations, Egyptian state media reported Sunday.

Visiting US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns delivered the invitation to Morsi at a meeting Sunday afternoon, Xinhua reported citing the MENA news agency.

Morsi was invited to visit the US during the annual session of the UN General Assembly in September.

Burns said his talks with Morsi were "constructive".

He said he conveyed the message of Obama who asserted the US` strong commitment to building a new partnership with Egypt based on joint interests and mutual respect.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to visit Egypt later this month.
