Washington: US President Barack Obama
has penned a book to educate children on 13 "groundbreaking
Americans" and the ideals that have shaped the country.
The book titled `Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My
Daughters` will hit stores on November 16, publisher Random
House said in a statement.
"President Obama sees the traits of these heroes
within his children, and within all of America`s children,"
the statement said.
Obama`s two daughters Malia, 12, and Sasha, nine
inspired him to write the book.
In the book, Obama has written a moving tribute to
thirteen groundbreaking Americans and the ideals that have
shaped the United States from the artistry of Georgia
O`Keeffe, to the courage of Jackie Robinson, to the patriotism
of George Washington.
Announcing the publication of the book in New York,
Chip Gibson, president and publisher of Random House
Children`s Book, said the book is an inspiring marriage of
words and images, history and story.
"`Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters`
celebrates the characteristics that unite all Americans?the
potential to pursue our dreams and forge our own paths,"
With a 5000,000 copy print-run, the illustration in
the book is provided by the award-winning and New York Times`
bestselling artist Loren Long. The book was acquired and the
manuscript completed prior to Obama taking office in January
Proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated
to a scholarship fund for the children of fallen and disabled
soldiers serving our nation.
Knopf Executive Editor Michelle Frey edited the book,
which was acquired from President Obama`s attorney, Robert B
His previous two books are "Dreams from My Father" and
"The Audacity of Hope".
