Obama`s approval rating drops to lowest ever: Poll

Fox News quoted a poll as saying that 39 percent of Americans approve of Barack Obama’s performance.

Washington: US President Barack Obama’s approval rating has fallen to below 40 percent, an all-time low, a Gallup’s daily tracking poll has revealed.

Fox News quoted the poll as saying that 39 percent of Americans approve of Obama’s performance, while 54 percent disapprove.

The slide comes as Obama launches a political counteroffensive this week, while he is weighed down by wilting support among some of his most ardent backers, a stunted economy and a daily bashing from the slew of Republicans campaigning for his job, Fox News reports.

"We`ve still got a long way to go to get to where we need to be. We didn`t get into this mess overnight and it`s going to take time to get out of it," Obama said over the weekend.

According to reports, Texas Republican Governor Rick Perry has emerged as the strongest challenger to Obama in the 2012 presidential poll.

Perry announced his candidacy in South Carolina on Saturday, and emphasised on his economic credentials and Texas` job growth, his conservative stances on social issues and his faith while addressing people there.
