New York: George Obama, who was recently interviewed in a new documentary about why the half-brother of the most powerful man on the planet lives in poverty and without any financial help from him, refused to criticise the US President in spite of being forced to do so.
Dinesh D’Souza, an anti-Obama author and filmmaker, managed to locate the President’s youngest half-brother in Kenya, but could not convince him to criticise his powerful sibling.
The President’s Kenyan half-brother has had only brief contact with his famous kin since their father, Barack Obama Sr, died in 1982, soon after George was born.
D’Souza, who wrote ‘The Roots of Obama’s Rage’, interviewed George for his upcoming documentary ‘2016: Obama’s America’ after learning he was living in a hut while his half-brother was running for the White House.
In a clip from the movie obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, D’Souza pressed George Obama to criticise the President for failing to give him financial help.
“I think he has a family of his own,” the New York Daily news quoted him as saying.
“He’s supposed to help his family,” he said.
D’Souza then asked his why he doesn’t think himself to be part of his family.
“I’m part of his family, but I’m overage, so I help myself,” George said.
D’Souza then shifted gears to note that the President had quoted the biblical command to be one’s “brother’s keeper”.
“You are his brother,” D’Souza said.
“Has he been your keeper?” he said.
George replied with a smile.
“Go ask him,” George said.
“He’s got other issues to deal with.
“Yeah, he’s taking care of the world, so he’s taking care of me.”
“I’m part of the world,” he said.
The movie gets a national limited release on July 27 after screenings in Houston and Los Angeles.
D’Souza argued in his book that President Obama is driven by an “inherited” anti-colonialist rage that was passed down from his father, Barack Obama Sr.
The President has said he only knew his father distantly during his childhood. His half-brother was a baby when Barack Obama Sr was killed in a car accident in 1982.
