Beijing: A Chinese Olympic champion`s former girlfriend, who cheated more than two dozen well-known figures in the sports and entertainment industries of nearly USD 10 million, has been awarded life imprisonment by a court here.
Wang Ti, 32, was sentenced in early December for scamming 27 people, including Yang Wei and Yang Yun, former Olympic gymnastics champions, according to Beijing No 2 Intermediate People`s Court.
Wang, who is appealing the court`s verdict, obtained more than USD 9 million through cheating, the China Daily reported today.
At the time she was carrying out her scams, Wang was the girlfriend of Xiao Qin, an Olympic gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Games in the pommel horse, it said.
