Dubai: Ruler of Oman, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al-Said, has completed the 40th year of his accession to power of the Sultanate.
Sultan Qaboos, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Omani Armed Forces, presided over a military parade in which the Sultan`s Armed Forces (SAF), the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO) and the Royal Oman Police (ROP) took part on Thursday.
Chairmen of the State Council and Majlis A`Shura, ministers, advisers, commanders of the Sultan`s Armed Forces, Royal Guard of Oman, military and security apparatuses and senior commanders and officers attended the ceremony.
Marches were also held at different places across the country.
Sultan Qaboos also turned 70 yesterday. The country`s 40th National Day festival will be celebrated on November 29 while a military music show would be organised on December 01 to mark the occasion.
In the build-up to the main event, the largest marble mosaic portrait of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al-Said was unveiled under the auspices of Sayyid Abdullah bin Hamad Al Busaidi, chairman of the State Audit Institution.
Local media reports said the portrait, which is eight metres in height and five metres in width, has secured its position in the Guinness World Records.
