Dharamsala: One more self-immolation occurred Tuesday in Tibet calling for the return of the Dalai Lama and freedom from China, the Tibetan government-in-exile said here.

It said 78 Tibetans have set themselves on fire since March 2009.

Tsering Dhondup, 34, set himself on fire at Amchok in north-eastern Tibet's Amdo region.

Officials of the government-in-exile said he died on the spot.

Dhondup is survived by his wife Tamdin Tso and two children.

A special meeting of the Tibet support groups from about 40 countries, which concluded here Sunday, called on the new Chinese leadership to urgently address the root causes of self-immolations in Tibet.

The support groups blamed the Chinese for the crisis and their failed Tibet policies over the last 60 years.

The Dalai Lama was forced to flee his homeland with 80,000 Tibetans March 17, 1959, after the Chinese invasion of Lhasa, Tibet.

His government-in-exile, that never won recognition from any country, is based in Dharamsala.
