Army Chief General Raheel Sharif today visited Pakistan`s first ever inland helicopter overhauling facility built in collaboration with a Russian company and witnessed the first batch of overhauled helicopters, army said.

Islamabad: Army Chief General Raheel Sharif today visited Pakistan`s first ever inland helicopter overhauling facility built in collaboration with a Russian company and witnessed the first batch of overhauled helicopters, army said.

General Sharif congratulated engineers and technicians of the Workshop for having developed the first ever inland helicopter overhauling capability in collaboration with Saint Petersburg Aviation Repair Company (SPARC).

"He specially appreciated the team for cost effectiveness and time reduction achieved due to our own overhauling facility," an army statement said.

The Chief of Army Staff emphasised on enhanced self reliance and continuous skill development to meet the growing challenges of maintaining high operational readiness of Army Aviation.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of serving and retired military officers.

Earlier this month, Russia said it was willing to supply MI-35 helicopters to Pakistan, raising concern in India.

India raised the issue of Russia`s decision to sell Mi-35 attack helicopters to Pakistan during the visit of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry O Rogozin to New Delhi this month.
