Peshawar: Security forces killed 12
Taliban fighters in a clash in the volatile Orakzai tribal
region in northwest Pakistan today as they consolidated their
positions in militant strongholds, officials said.
The clash occurred at Afghan Top area in Orakzai
Agency.
Officials said two security personnel and seven
militants were injured in the skirmish.
Security forces have been engaged in an offensive
against the Taliban in Orakzai Agency for over three months.
Officials say the troops have killed about 1,700
militants though the figure cannot be independently confirmed
as journalists have no access to the conflict zone.
Officials said security forces have occupied strategic
points in Orakzai Agency after forcing the militants to go on
the run.
