Hebron: Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian as he tried to stab a soldier in the West Bank on Friday, the Army said, only days after a Palestinian policeman stabbed a soldier to death.
"Troops shot and wounded the assailant after he tried to stab a soldier but he died in the ambulance that was transporting him to hospital," an Army spokeswoman said.
The incident occurred in the flash point city of Hebron, in the occupied West Bank, where earlier Palestinians threw stones at soldiers in the city centre, the Army said.
On Wednesday, a Palestinian policeman stabbed and killed an Israeli soldier in the northern West Bank, in what was the first Israeli fatality this year in the Middle East conflict.
