Pirates hijack cargo ship off Somalia

The Panamanian flagged, Greek-operated cargo ship had crew of 12 Ukrainians.

Athens: Pirates hijacked a Panamanian flagged, Greek-operated cargo ship with a crew of 12 Ukrainians aboard, some 900 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia, Greek harbour police said on Monday.
"We were informed on Saturday afternoon that the cargo ship MV Lugela had been hijacked by pirates", a police spokesman said.
No information was immediately available concerning the cargo carried by the ship operated by TDM Carrier, based in the Greek port of Piraeus, or its itinerary.
