Prophet Mohammed cartoonist `head-butted` Stockholm: Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, who sparked controversy by drawing Prophet Mohammed was attacked while giving a lecture at a university, police said.

"The man was sat in the first row and suddenly he rushed at me. He punched me in the head and I lost my glasses," said Vilks, adding that at the very most he was "a little bruised."

Police said around 250 people were present at the time of the attack at the University of Uppsala, north of the Stockholm.

"When Lars Vilks arrived, five persons started to protest against him with screaming. They calmed down and the lecture continued.

"When Lars Vilks talked about religion and showed a film, 20 persons tried to attack him, probably offended by the film."

Police evacuated the lecture hall but some demonstrators resisted forcing officers to use tear gas. Two people were arrested.

In 2007, Swedish regional daily Nerikes Allehanda published Vilks' satirical cartoon to illustrate an editorial on the importance of freedom of expression.

The cartoon prompted protests by Muslims in the town of Oerebro, west of Stockholm, where the newspaper is based, while Egypt, Iran and Pakistan made formal complaints.

An al-Qaeda front organisation then offered USD 100,000 to anyone who murdered Vilks -- with an extra 50,000 if his throat was slit -- and USD 50,000 for the death of Nerikes Allehanda editor-in-chief Ulf Johansson.

why you need to attack muhammed and islam in a vulgure manner? y all of you keep watching all the islamic sites and documents to attack in rubbish? the answer is there you all are afraid of the tremendous growth of islam. but understand allah himself challenging in the quran the growth of islam, keeping the quran, and none can beat.. yu always go on with this type of activities and waste the time.. only if you want the right knowledge go with free mind thru quran and muhammed(pubh) who glorified jesus(pubh), moses(pubh) and all prophets..

i saw the story on the attack on the swedish cartoonist. there is an american angle that seems very interesting. there is a book that makes the cartoons look kindergardenish and is openly and publicly sold by amazon.com with no court contests, problems or protests, as of now.

``how fatima started islam: mohammad`s daughter tells it all`` by an american author who uses the same noor barack depicts mohammad as a urine-soaked, drunken, cowardly fool who is too incompetent to even run his business `mohammad`s saloon & brothel` well. his intelligent daughter fatima, who is desperate to escape from the brothel and continuously servicing tricks, concocts the religion as an avenue of escape. to control and manipulate the old fool she only has to keep him supplied with booze, young girls, young boys, and camels.

the book seems popular right now only among us military personnel but many orthodox islamists will be extremely displeased when the alleged blasphemy and mocking of islam becomes well known.

world should know that religions are still the force in the society , as birth and death still remains ubdefined ,human beings had to resort to some power beyound thier reach for thier salvation . now the question of respect for faith , i personally believe that we will be more superior human beings if we learn to resoect each other faiths .the another issue is word freedom in our dictionary which is like maid which is brutally raped and mutilitated beyond recognition . the world linguistic may please join thier heads and define the boundries of freedom after all countries have borders wvwn they claim to be free countries freedom has not broken the visa rules and movement of human beings from one place another , so why freedom becomes a slave used on whims ??

i am not a muslim, but i do understand the emotion that lies behind the religion. what he did is improper and incorrect and should be penalised or be warned against repeating same in the future. but to all the people who said that it is wrong as per islam to draw the picture of prophet mohammed, i just want to ask one question, wh yarent you raising your voice against the same islamic group who in the name of prophet mohammed, are committing mass slaughtering ??? you will be better men to know whats their in kuraan...then why raise voice only this time?? raise voice , protest fight against the people who under the shadow of islam are killing innocent people.

i will try to be to some extent a philosopher. what is religion? as per my view, religion was founded by some intelligent persons previously to unit the rude, crude, unrefined, raw and mannerless people of ancient age. this was happened in each sub continent and continet. now, religion has been the apple of all disputes in ultra modern age of human being. is any religon greater than a life of human being? people exist so the religions exist. without people, any religion can survive in this materialistic world? no. so why we, human being is so eager to kill each other in the name of religion. religion should work for construction. when religion starts to work for destruction, the religion should be abolished.

any religion doesn’t give the liberty to hurt anyone’s feeling. if anyone does that then he is liable for punishment.
