Putin doesn`t rule out leading United Russia in Duma polls

State Duma (lower House) polls are scheduled for December 2011.

Moscow: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin did not rule out that he could lead the ruling United Russia party in next year`s Parliamentary Elections.

In an interview to State-run Rossiya-1 TV channel `Vesti Saturday` weekly news analysis programme, Putin, however, said it was `little early to talk about this`.

State Duma (lower House) polls are scheduled for December 2011. Putin, who is chairman of the United Russia party with absolute majority in the Russian lower house, however, is not its formal member.

"However, in general, of course, in my current position, I do not rule it out," he said.

At the last Duma polls in 2007, Putin was also on the top of the list of the United Russia candidates, although he did not take his seat in the house, which was passed on to another candidate.
