Chicago: Rahm Emanuel, the mayor-elect of
Chicago, had a private meeting with President Barack Obama at
the White House which discussed a "broad range" of topics.
51-year-old Emanuel, a former White House
Chief-of-Staff, was elected mayor of Chicago after beating
five rivals to take charge of the third largest US city on
"The president and mayor-elect enjoyed a productive
conversation in which a broad range of topics were discussed,"
a spokesperson for Emanuel was quoted as saying by ABC TV.
It was his first trip to Washington since he left the
powerful post of Chief-of-Staff at the White House in November
Emanuel would pick up the mantle from retiring mayor
Richard Daley who had ruled for 22 years.
