Beijing: A top leader of China's ruling
Communist Party on Wednesday asked the government to resist the
influence of "Western multi-party and bicameral systems" and
practice the socialist democratic politics.
Addressing the Chinese People's Political Consultative
Conference (CPPCC), top advisory body, Jia Qinglin, ranked
fourth in the Chinese Communist Party hierarchy, said the
country should "resolutely resist the influence of Western
multi-party and bicameral systems".
"We need to combine studying and implementing the
guiding principles with building a common ideological and
political foundation unswervingly uphold the theoretical
system of socialism with Chinese characteristics," Jia said
amid applause from President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.
Reference of Deng Xiaoping, who introduced the
'socialist market economy' in China deviating from Chairman
Mao's brand of communism and support for Hu's leadership,
dominated Jia's speech.
"The response to the impact of the global financial
crisis was a significant test of the party and government
ability to the rule and administer the country," he said and
asked the party to firmly rally behind the leadership of
President Hu who is also the General Secretary of the CPC.
