Rights of citizens significantly enhanced: China Beijing: China on Thursday asked the US to stop interfering in its internal affairs on the issue of Falung Gong cult which it said was "anti-human".

Ruling out lifting a ban on the Falun Gong, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Qin Gang: "Falun Gong is anti human, anti society and anti science cult. The Chinese government outlawed the cult according to the law. Hope the US Congressmen recognises the nature of the cult and stop interfering internal affairs of China."

The US House of Representative voted nearly unanimously yesterday and asked China to free thousands of members of the movement who are said to be imprisoned and to abolish a government office tasked with fighting the movement.

China also refuted Britain's latest annual report on human rights, calling the report "an ideological political show."

Reacting to British Foreign Secretary David Miliband’s report which named China as one of 22 "countries of concern," with regard to human rights, Qin said most of the countries listed in the report were developing countries.

"Why doesn't the report talk about some Western countries that have also violated human rights? This is simply an ideological political show," he said.

He said Chinese people of various ethnic groups enjoyed fundamental rights conferred by the Constitution according to law and the level of their enjoyment of human rights had increased significantly.

He said, "China is committed promotion and protection of human rights and freedom of Chinese people.

"Political, social cultural rights of citizens have been significantly been enhanced," he said adding that as economic development picked pace "we also pay great attention to rule of law and human rights."

"China has been making progress (in the sphere of human rights) and any country and person with no prejudice will recognise this," he said.

"China stands for narrowing the differences through dialogue on the basis of mutual respect and equality," he said.

China opposed pressure and confrontation, double standards on human rights issues and interference in other nation's internal affairs, he added.
