Rioters ripped out our hearts, says British MP

David Lammy, the local MP from Tottenham, described the vandals as "mindless, mindless people".

London: The British MP who represents Tottenham, the epicentre of the London violence, said the rioters "ripped the heart out" of his home area.

David Lammy, who toured the scenes of smouldering devastation after the mayhem ended, described the vandals as "mindless, mindless people", many of whom came from outside just to cause trouble, The Sun newspaper reported Monday.

Referring to the shooting of Mark Duggan, the Tottenham-born MP said Sunday: "What happened here Thursday night raised huge questions and we need answers. The response to that is not to loot and rob."

"A community that was already hurting has now had its heart ripped out," The Sun quoted Lammy, 39, who has been the local MP since 2000, as saying.

"The post office, shops, newsagents, the council building that deals with customer complaints, were smashed to pieces by mindless, mindless people, many of whom had come from afar intent on trouble," he said.
