Robert Mugabe`s party to raise $1 mn for his 90th birthday

Harare: Zimbabwe's ruling party aims to raise up to USD 1 million for country's President Robert Mugabe's birthday party who will turn 90 next month.

Born on February 21, 1924, Mugabe has been leading Zimbabwe for 34 years since its independence in 1980.

"This is a very special celebration. Turning 90 is no mean feat, " Xinhua quoted Absalom Sikhosana, secretary for youth affairs of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) party. The celebrations would be held in the Marondera town on February 23.

The Zanu-PF youth league, usually tasked for organising the Feb 21 celebrations, was targeting to raise between USD 700,000 and USD 1 million, the official added.
