Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reportedly accused the United States of adding fuel to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and escalating it further.
The accusation by Lavrov came after the European Union (EU) meeting which gave time to Russia to take initiative to improve the situation in the strife-torn Ukraine or heavy sanctions would follow, as per news reports.
Ukraine had recently signed a free-trade deal forging close ties with Europe, the deal that angered Russia and triggered the bloodshed and political convulsions of the past seven months, the report stated.
The Ukrainian President had recently signed a “historic” EU deal after which Russia reportedly threatened of “consequences.”
"It is a historic day, the most important day since independence," he reportedly declared.
Ukraine`s former president Viktor Yanukovych was ousted shortly after his decision to work with Russia and not sign the deal with Yanukovych.
Apart from Ukraine, the EU signed similar deals with Georgia and Moldova as well.
