Moscow: Russia demands explanation from the US over a child abuse case involving a Russian boy adopted by an American family, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

The boy was adopted by a US couple arrested in 2011 in Florida for alleged child abuse. But a local court later withdrew all charges and released the foster parents, Xinhua reported.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry is seriously concerned with the information that the underage Maxim Babayev adopted from Russia was abused in his American foster family of Shed and Christy Tailors," the ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a release.

The Russian government would do its best to protect the boy's rights and interests, and is going to raise the issue during the Russia-US consultations currently underway in Moscow, said the release.

Russia ratified an agreement with the US on child adoption cooperation in July 2012.

I reported the abuse of three children adopted from Russian and living in Texas. I was sent to the home by Child Protective Services in 2007. After numerous attempts to get protective services to remove the children from the abusive home, I took the children to the Commissioner of the Texas Department of Child and Protective Services in Austin, Texas. The children had run away as they often did. I had a children`s home for abused children so several times various people in the town called me about the Russian children. I received little response to my requests for help. When I took the children to the head of the agency, I was arrested and the children were returned to the abusive home. I remain a professional counselor in my state and continue to obtain a helpful response for these children. One of the children, the oldest, a boy, has been missing since this past June. My cries for help go unanswered. In addition, I am in the 4th year of postponed court dates for my ``crime`` of trying to protect these kids. I am not sure why they keep these charges hanging over my head. What I do know is that the abusers of these children have been protected by every level of government in this state while the protectors of the children have attacked on many levels, including threat of prison. Human Rights is at the core of this situation.
