Russia sends aid to Syria

Russia delivered another package of humanitarian aid to Syria and would withdraw more Russian nationals from the war-torn country.

Moscow: Russia delivered another package of humanitarian aid to Syria and would withdraw more Russian nationals from the war-torn country, Russia`s Emergency Situations Ministry said on Tuesday.

"At 9:00 Moscow time (0500 GMT), an Il-76 aircraft took off from Ramenskoye airport near Moscow carrying 20 tonnes of humanitarian cargo," Xinhua quoted ministry spokeswoman Irina Rossius as saying.

The plane was loaded mostly with canned foods and sugar, she added.

On its return trip, the plane would pick up about 100 Russian nationals and 80 citizens of other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Russia regularly sends humanitarian aid to Syria and withdraws its citizens from the country.

On May 29, two planes delivered 22 tonnes of cargo to Syria`s harbour city of Latakia and evacuated 128 nationals of Russia and other CIS countries. In April, Russia delivered three batches of humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan.
