Moscow: Talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande that ran late into the night offer hope of ending the Ukraine conflict, a senior Russian politician said Saturday.
"The talks between Merkel, Hollande and Putin give a chance of peace," wrote Alexei Pushkov, the chief of the lower house of parliament`s foreign affairs committee, on Twitter.
He contrasted the stance of Merkel and Hollande with that on the other hand of Ukraine and the United States, which he said were not seeking peace.
"(Ukrainian President Petro) Poroshenko is only capable of shelling. The US is capable of further stoking war, but not of giving peace," Pushkov said.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier told reporters the talks lasting more than four hours had been "substantial and constructive."
