Paris: French police on Tuesday arrested Agathe
Habyarimana, the widow of Rwanda's assassinated ex-president,
who is wanted for trial in her homeland as one of the alleged
masterminds of the 1994 genocide.
Agathe Habyarimana had been living in a Paris suburb for
the past 12 years after fleeing her country after her husband
Juvenal Habyarimana's plane was shot down in April 1994 and
bloodshed erupted.
The arrest came just five days after President Nicolas
Sarkozy made a momentous trip to Kigali, the first by a French
leader since the genocide in which 800,000 people, mostly
ethnic Tutsis were massacred.
French police were acting on an international arrest
warrant issued by Rwanda when they turned up at Habyarimana's
home in Courcouronnes, south of Paris, shortly before 0700
GMT, officials told agency.
