Rustenburg: The world`s biggest platinum producer, Anglo American Platinum, sacked 12,000 striking workers over wages on Friday, as per BBC news reports.

A worker was reportedly killed in clashes with police as Anglo American Platinum said the miners failed to appear before disciplinary hearings "and have therefore been dismissed in their absence."

South African mining has been repeatedly hit by a wave of strikes, in which several miners and officials both lost their life in huge number, the news reported said.
Around 28,000 workers have been on strike for three weeks at the firm`s sprawling mines in Rustenburg, in the north of the country, demanding better pay and conditions.

Miners said that they are getting desperate and do not have enough money to feed their families because of the no-work, no-pay strike.
