Beijing: French President Nicolas Sarkozy
on Thursday visited Beijing briefly and held discussions with his
Chinese counterpart on economic woes troubling the world as
well as issues related to the next G-20 summit.
Sarkozy held talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao on
the issue relating to G-20 summit on a brief stopover in
Beijing before heading on to France's Pacific territory of New
Caledonia.
Sarkozy said the G-20 summit in Cannes must make
decisions to propel the early recovery of the world economy.
"That is a crucial issue, in which China can play a very
important role," official Xinhua news agency quoted Sarkozy as
saying.
France, which currently holds the G-20 chairmanship, will
host the G-20 summit in Cannes in November.
"Your visit reflects the height of China-France strategic
cooperation," Hu told Sarkozy at the start of their meeting at
the Great Hall of the People.
Hu said stronger China-France coordination and
cooperation will play an important part in pushing forward
positive results from the Group of 20 nations (G-20) summit,
boosting international economic cooperation and promoting the
sound recovery of the world economy.
